Kent Carter, the vice president of the Arlington NAACP branch, was killed in the attack on Sunday, Oct. 2 while he was taking a tour of the area, the reports continue.
A suspect in the attack was also killed, and five other people including one American were injured in the violent incident as police fired back, the reports state.
Carter was a "soon-to-be husband", father, and veteran who was heavily involved in and admired by his community and peers, according to several posts mourning the activist.
The shooting is still under reportedly under investigation.
